Fleece Blankets for Shelter

Today we made fleece blankets for abused women and children. It was really rewarding to know that we were making something that would make a difference to them.

We are so glad to help with such a worthy cause. Everyone had a great time making the blankets!

Honoring the Heros Among Us

Today was our first Club Day of the school year!

Since it was the 10th anniversary of 9/11, we wanted to commemorate the event by honoring all the brave men and women who have served our country or who still are serving.

We wrote letters to soldiers and watched an inspirational video about our brave service men and women. Then we had the veterans who are working in our school come to our club day so we could honor them. We were so happy to have 2 of our teachers and our principal come to our meeting. It was really interesting to hear when and where they each served. Along with our heart-felt thanks, we gave each a candy bar & thank you note.

We all signed a huge thank you banner that was later hung in the hallway by the front office.

Thanks to everyone there we were able to send off about 80 thank you letters to active duty soldiers!

Kicking Off A New Year!

We are so excited to begin our third year as a service club at Maple Mountain High School!

After Club Rush, we found out that we are one of the two biggest clubs at MMHS! We have about 56 students in our club!!!

We are really looking forward to a fun year of meaningful service. This year we are adopting The Center for Women and Children in Crisis. All but two of our service projects will directly benefit the abused women and children at this shelter.

We look forward to a new year of service, friends and fun!

January: Personalized Pillow Cases

For our January club day we wanted to give the children something a little different, and more personal. So, we made each child at the Blue House, their personalized pillow case. They turned out awesome!!! :) The children were excited to have something personalized just for them :) Thank you to all club members who made this possible :)

Book Drive

PTSA Represented at Kiwanis Dinner

Our PTSA Service Club was invited to attend the annual Kiwanis dinner honoring local service clubs from the various high schools in Spanish Fork.

Jacob Henry, President, represented our club last night at the dinner. He told everyone about how are club decided to "adopt" a group of foster kids at The Blue House this year and that all of our service projects will benefit them. He also told them about our annual field trip to East Meadows elementary school to tutor the second graders in math and reading.

December: Christmas Stockings :)

For our December club day, we made 32 Christmas stocking for the Blue House. These stockings turned out awesome and were stuffed with movie passes, free ice cream coupons, and lots more :) We want to thank everyone for bringing donations and we also want to thank Spanish 8 Theaters, and Cold Stone Ice Cream :)- Thank you for making these children's Christmas a little brighter :)

For our November club day we made 32 beautiful fleece blankets for the "Blue House". They were very appreciative and will be nice and cozy for the upcoming winter. Brrrrrr!

Happy Halloween!

Our very first club day was a perfect success! We appreciate all who attended and participated in any way. For our first service project for the Blue House, we made them decorated Halloween treat bags. They all turned out absolutely perfect!

The student board and parent advisories had the opportunity to deliver the bags to the Blue House and they were extremely grateful. No one has ever thought to do service for them, so this is especially special for them, and for us.

Don't forget to come to club day next Thursday!!! We will be making blankets for the Blue House children!

Welcome to a new chapter of the MMHS PTSA! This year we have adopted a foster home organization known as "The Blue House." This is a place where kids (ages 7-18) go when there parents do not want them or can no longer care for them. We have about 30 kids at the Blue House currently.

This year we will be doing all sorts of service projects especially for the Blue House. These will include... Halloween Bags, Christmas stockings, A Carnival, and much more. We hope you join with us in our excitement to help these children.

If you would like to join PTSA, come to the lunch room on Club Days. (3rd Thursdays)

PTSA Leadership Conference

On Saturday, our president, Jacob Henry, went to the first PTSA Youth Leadership conference sponsored by the Utah PTA. It was for all the students who will be in leadership roles at their high schools next year. None of the other student officers could go so Jacob represented our MMHS PTSA.

They had a former Miss Utah there to talk about her "soapbox" issue which is making good choices every time and staying away from drugs and alcohol. She shared a lot of amazing personal stories. She let all the kids try on her tiara!

They put all the school representatives into small groups for a balloon pyramid construction challenge. Jacob's group won!

They also participated in several team building games and activities.

It was a great conference and Jacob is all fired up for a great year with the MMHS PTSA next year!

March Club Day- Field Trip to Elementary School

For our final Service Project this year, the PTSA club visited the second graders at East Meadows Elementary School. We helped read with the kids, tutor them in math, and even play with everyone during recess. This was considered by many students to be the highlight of our PTSA year. The elementary kids had a blast as well. Everyone left the school with a smile on their faces.

February Service Project - Valentine's Day Cards and Goody Bags

For our project this month, the PTSA service club members wrote Valentine's Cards and assembled Goody Bags for residents of a local nursing home. Also, everyone signed a giant card for a cheerleader, daughter of the assistant principal, who was involved in a serious accident. Everyone did a great job, and many people were touched when the packages were delivered the following Friday.

For Club Day this month, members of PTSA helped make fleece blankets for sick children at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. By the end of the meeting, we were able to make 20 wonderful blankets. Thanks to everyone who helped, and special thanks to those who brought fleece. Great job, everybody!

Festival of Trees

The Festival of Trees was a big success. About 25 clubs participated, and over $500 were raised. The money will be used to help support our school library. Thanks for everyone who helped the program be so successful!

Jessica Blackett and Mrs. Laura Henry were invited to the Kiwanis Dinner at the Primrose Restaurant in Spanish Fork. This dinner honored various service clubs from local high schools. Jessica spoke about some of our service projects so far (writing letters to soldiers, making halloween treat bags for abused children, and fleece blankets for sick children in the hospital). She also talked about some of our upcoming events, including the Festival of Trees and sponsoring a 5K charity run in the spring.

She represented us well, and we are proud of her. Way to go Jessica!

For our PTSA meeting this month, we assembled halloween treat bags for abused children. PTSA members decorated the bags, and filled them with candy, pencils, and other small toys. Thanks to everyone's generosity in bringing candy and toys, we were able to make up really nice bags for the kids. The project went great: we assembled 50 bags!

Because it was almost halloween, several people were dressed up - special nods to Tigger, the home-made Clone Trooper outfit, and the sweet old lady.

For October's Service Club Meeting, we will be assembling Halloween Treat Bags for abused children. We really want to let these kids know that someone cares about them. This is a great chance to lift someone's spirits.

If you are interested in bringing something for the Treat Bags, that would be awesome.

We will need the following items:

-Small, Individually Wrapped Candy Bars

-Small Toys

-Crayons

-Stickers

-Cellophane Halloween Treat Bags

If you would like to donate, please contact Laura or Jody, so they will know who is bringing what for the bags. This will help them know what is still needed.

Please bring your donations to the next club meeting, which will be on Thursday, Oct 29th, at 9 a.m.

First Service Club Meeting

Our first PTSA Service Club Meeting was held on Thursday during Club Time. We started the meeting off by introducing our amazing student board. After that, all the members split into groups for a tasty get-to-know-you game involving M&M's. Once everyone was acquainted, we dove into our first service project of the year: writing letters to soldiers. Everyone did a great job on the letters they wrote; every letter had a very personal, sincere feel to it. After that, we talked about upcoming activities. Overall, it was a great first meeting. Thanks to all of our 22 members who showed up!

First of all, thanks for joining the Maple Mountain PTSA Service Club. It is going to be a great year! We're going to have lots of fun, make new friends, and learn leadership skills as we help the community through wonderful service projects.
